I have the same question 0. Roman Wienicke r.
Hello, this is Roman, I'm a independent advisor. Removing a checkpoint normally results in a merge process where the new data is merged into the virtual disk of the vm. If this didn't work and the checkpoints are still visible you can try the following I'd recommend to make a copy of the vhd x files before : 1 you can try to discard all changes and reset the machine to the state before you created the checkpoint. I found this problem myself while adding certain VHKD files to new and existing Hyper-V virtual machines, I never really dug around that much as I have experience loads of problems adding virtual hard disks to Hyper-V unless they were VHD format.
Which is completely free! It doesnt take that long either, I would imagine it would work after doing this. Sign up to join this community. The best answers are voted up and rise to the top.

It only takes a minute to sign up. The upgrade went smoothly, but when it settled down as the new version, I found two virtual machines out of seventeen to be missing from the Hyper-V console UI. These "missing" VMs do not have any online snapshots tied to them. Even for those that did I removed and merge the snapshots based on Microsoft's adviceand they've "survived". There seem to be a lot of "General access denied error 0x " discussion when it comes to starting virtual machines.
But my case is the Hyper-V service being unable to even load the configuration, so Hyper-V knows where those VM config locations but don't have permission to access them? What would be causing this problem? My virtual machines are scattered across multiple drives, so there has to be a centralised repository.
Which turns out to be. I noticed the troubled VM links had a "lock" icon. I edited the security ACL of the troubled symbolic link. It appears to work without the Virtual machine accounts.
Still haven't gotten the complete deep answers I was looking for to explain just what Hyper-V is requiring out of those Virtual machine accounts, but at least the original virtual machine config can be reused.

Even it might sound strange, I have seen cases when a cold boot is required after enabling the hypervisor. Could you try shutting down the physical server, unplug it from the power for few minutes, plugging in and starting it again? By the way, is there are reason you want to use Windows Server R2 for virtualizing a new server?
As I understand, you are starting fresh, so it might be a much better idea to use Hyper-V R2 free version for that. One more thing if i enable the option "Migrate to a Physical computer with a different processor version" in the virtual machine processor settings, the VM is successfully starting. Was this a brand new VM created on this host, or did you move the VM and a saved state from another system?
The compatibility option that you enabled is generally something that is used in clustering to enable live migration between hosts with different processsor version, like Gen 3 I-7 to Gen 4 I But as Tim mentioned, if the VM has a saved memory state, enabling the option is the way to get around it if the processor family changed.
