Students must take two IC-designated courses, one course in the Basic Skills section and one course in the Subject Explorations section. Basic Skills coursework provides students with the knowledge and abilities that they will find useful and necessary for other GE and University courses and in their pursuits after graduation.

Coursework in this section must include one lecture course in each subarea—B1, B2 and B4, and one laboratory activity connected to either the B1 or B2 lectures. Students must also take one B5 course. Arts and Humanities coursework helps students to appreciate the rich history and diversity of human knowledge, discourse and achievements of their own and other cultures as they are expressed in the arts, literatures, religions and philosophy.

Lifelong Learning coursework encourages students to develop an appreciation for the importance of the continued acquisition of new and diverse knowledge and skills, and offers opportunities to integrate personal, professional, and social aspects of life. CSUN also provides faculty and students with ongoing technical training and support for the Learning Management System LMSweb tools unique to the program, and digital learning resources.
Because we provide in-house technical support and program development, there is no question about faculty having ready access to materials and seamless technical support. They evaluate the potential of what they discover with an understanding of CSUN programs both current and planned and work to integrate them into the LMS.

Because our online programs are designed to create a supportive and engaging educational environment, we assign both a faculty academic lead and a program support coordinator to each program. These individuals work with each student from the initial contact and application process through graduation and beyond.
The academic lead works with the faculty members to ensure that the curriculum and instructional plan are properly tailored and executed to provide the highest quality education. Online students receive an intensive two-week orientation to prepare them for success.
During orientation students will learn to use the technology effectively, and develop learning skills and study strategies that prepare them for success in the online program.

Headings are used to create an outline, or table of contents, that helps users to navigate the content more efficiently. You can apply the concept of headings in almost every kind of electronic content, including Word documents, on the web, and in Canvas courses. Use the Format drop-down menu to select heading levels within the text editor.
In Canvas, Heading 2 is the highest level you can choose.
Also use the bullet and numbering options available from the formatting toolbar instead of manually typing lists. Images convey information quickly and powerfully—assuming they can been seen and understood.
However, some readers may not understand the meaning of the image; others may not be able to see it due to visual impairment, personal viewing preferences especially on the webor technological limitations. Why is this important? By adding an alt text to an image, you make its meaning available to people who, for whatever reason, cannot see it.
Canvas provides a text box for entering alternate text at the same time that you upload an image. Captioning provides a synchronized text transcript of the audio for any type of multimedia so that the information can be read as well as heard. This alternate method of delivery is vital for including those with hearing impairments, but it is also beneficial for other users, such as those learning the language used in the video.
Captions can be combined into a video transcript. Because the transcript is searchable, users can locate a specific points in the video, and search engines will bring more traffic to your site. You can upload a caption file for any videos you have uploaded into Canvas. These instructions assume that you already have the file ready to go.
